Miscellaneous Tools and Techniques

There follow a miscellaneous collection of Tools and Techniques which can provide a new way of tackling tasks. They illustrate the way that techniques can be created to meet specific needs and provide a way of thinking and working creatively.

Stakeholder Mapping is becoming ever more important as organisations work in conjunction with other agencies. Trust and Agreement can be used at a personal level (in a similar way to Perceiving Others) to illicit problems and areas of conflict between groups and individuals. Storytelling can be a creative problem analysis and implementation tool.

Stakeholder mapping

Mapping relationships with ‘stakeholders’ and other parties, which are in relationship with us, can be crucial if you are to understand how to influence them. This technique explores this in a graphical way.
“Do we have any influence over them?”
What is our relationship with them like?”

Trust and Agreement

Understanding our relationship with other departments (and even individual people) can help to assess how we can work with them. Using an adapted Four Box Model this technique plots relationships.
“I don’t trust them!” “Yes but we have to work with them!”

Storytelling

Storytelling is used to describe a personal or organisational ‘history’ and future in a way which gives it a sense of interest and feeling. It is used when the actual details might be too unpalatable or difficult to accept ‘head-on’, or where it would be interesting to describe something in an unusual way.

“How would it be if…”
“I can imagine ….”
