Tools and Techniques

This section contains a range of advanced models, tools and techniques which the Facilitator will find useful in a variety of different situations. Some of them are core to the art, science and skill of facilitation and some require specialist knowledge and confidence to apply. Some take a few minutes to execute whilst others may require a whole day to conclude. You can see a quick aide memoir on each one outlining the key (process) words linked to them and how to ‘hear’ process words.

Models
Models are the largest aspect of process. They constitute the key component of process. They invariably require the use of tools and techniques within them. They take time and usually match with an objective.

Tools
Tools are ‘smaller’ than models and ‘larger’ than Techniques. They match with Tasks.

Techniques
Techniques are the smallest building blocks of process and can support and be used within tools.

For the full range of other Models, Tools and Techniques which can be used by facilitators and managers alike please refer to the A5 ring binder: Facilitation - A Manual of Models, Tools and Techniques and for the underpinning theory and core principles see the book: Facilitation – an art, science, skill or all three?
